Web design for Hairiffic

Overview

Hairiffic is a Japanese hair salon opening a new store in Cherrybrook, a quieter residential area away from the bustling CBD, known for its pink cherry blossoms in the Spring. The store being the first hair salon on the Metro station grounds, providing convenience whilst delivering detailed care within every hair session.

Hairiffic came to me to lead a design for their new website, an identity that matches their new store — a space of lightness and a sanctuary from the moment a customer steps in.

Challenge

For seven years, Hairiffic has built its business on foot traffic & word of mouth but never had a foundational brand identity or a working website.

So how do you design a website that brings in business before the client has even stepped through the door? And how do you translate the care of the salon experience onto a screen, so new clients trust it right away?

Client

Hairiffic wanted a minimalist vibe to their website to reflect their new salon space. They described their ideal branding to feel “simple, clean & a little playful”, an effortless visual identity that allows a client to feel trusted in the salon's care. From booking to cut and styling, Hairiffic wants their customers to feel serene throughout the process.

Brand Identity

When approaching the branding's design system, Hairiffic requested a neutral colour palette and Julius Sans One as part of the website. I used Julius Sans for all headers and paired this unique font with Crimson Pro for the rest of the content, as a contrast to balance the website.

Through exploration, I landed on using a dark rich brown for the buttons and a gradient to bring depth into the simple colour palette. Making hover and selection effects to feel premium whilst adhering to minimalistic colours. Stone and Greige are used for text highlights, and other hover effects.

System Design

The selected colours and typography is intertwined carefully throughout the website, a challenge of creating a space that is clean without being boring. All elements are playful through directional interactions and motion. This shows the playful side of Hairiffic, inspired from their one line logo.

Components: buttons, navigation bar and booking progress steps

Currently, Hairiffic's only booking software is 'Shortcuts', which the salon uses behind the scenes to manage its sessions. Every appointment has to be typed in by hand. The new booking system is designed so that appointments can appear straight into their schedule automatically.

Preview (still a work in progress)

Whilst Hairiffic is waiting for its official store opening, we are still tinkering with the website's media and content.

Come back soon to see the live website and book a salon treatment ;)
